Our Lady of Mercy Parish

Located in Potomac, Maryland, Our Lady of Mercy Parish represents over 1500 families. Its parishioners are involved in a number of organizations including its Catholic school, programs for the elderly, and outreach to the local community.

In the spring of 2002, Our Lady of Mercy came to Lokitech with an information architecture problem. The content on its old site was placed in such a way that made navigating difficult and inefficient. Secondary navigation was placed at the top of each page, making all main information fall to the bottom of every page.

The Lokitech design team created a more intuitive navigation structure which allowed for three levels of links, each displayed in its own unique color. Placing all navigation on the left side of the page, rather than splitting it up as in the previous website, allowed the body content not to be sacrificed by links and eliminated lengthy scrolling. In the case of long pages, “back to top” links were added to make viewing a page more efficient. Fresh new graphics and photography were added, giving the site an updated and clean new look.

This redesign and reorganization proved a great success for Our Lady of Mercy Parish. With a more easily navigated website and a fresh new look, Our Lady of Mercy is now better able to communicate with its members. The Lokitech design team delivered this project in conjunction with the dedication of the parish’s New Church on May 1, 2002. This was an exciting time for Our Lady of Mercy, and Lokitech was able to help the parish achieve its goals.
