Global Intranet

Hogan & Hartson, a top 25 U.S. law firm, realized its attorneys and IT staff were spending an inordinate amount of time troubleshooting desktop systems. The firm decided to move all applications from the desktop to the server and then access each application through the intranet using a standard web browser.

Lokitech aided in the transition to browser-based applications, but Lokitech's main contribution was developing the custom intranet applications:

* Recruiting System - Using an affinity based matching system, this intranet application scheduled candidates with a personalized set of partners. The interview process was tracked and greatly increased internship retension and candidate selection.

* Project Management System - Through this intranet application, attorneys enter their projected schedules, which are then automatically consolidated to a master schedule for firm management. After the attorney entered actual hours worked, the system tracks projected versus actual hours.

* Interactive Library Locator System - This intranet application allows an attorney to view a graphical representation of the firm's library, click on each library section to see those resources located in that area, or pick a library resource from the legend and locate the resource in the library.

* Electronic Memo System - This firm-wide system displays current electronic memos and provides an archive of past memos. Multiple user roles are defined to simulate the existing routing procedures of internal memos. The system automatically checks for new memos and a flashing icon in the Windows taskbar notifies the attorney of new memos.

With Lokitech's applications in place and with all common applications launched under the web browser, the attorneys spend less time on their computer setup and more time serving clients. The firm's IT department now upgrades software in a single location and can focus on strategic issues rather than on maintaining hundreds of desktops.
